Red Toile Gatefold invitation
by Laurel Goodroe
(Tomball, TX)
Closed invitation with envelope and open invitaion with other pieces.
The invitation needed to fit in an A7 envelope so the completed invitation was 5x7.
I bought my red card stock from the local Michael's in 8.5 x 11 size sheets. Using my paper cutter, I cut the card stock to 7x10.
After the card stock was cut I scored the flaps to create the gate fold. I measured in 2.5 inches from each side and scored a line. This left a 5 inch panel on the inside.
I bought my toile scrapbook paper from my local Hobby Lobby in 12x12 sheets. I wanted to create a layered panal look so I cut them to 6.75 inches by 4.75 inches. I then used glue dots to stick the toile mat to the red gatefold.
I designed my invitation panel, rsvp and map in illustrator and photoshop. The invitation panal was cut to 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches to keep the panal effect going. That was stuck down with glue dots as well.
The rsvp card was cut to fit inside a 4bar envelope, about 3x5 inches.
My map card just needed to fit inside the envelope with everything and was cut to 4x6 inches. The map itself was designed by tracing over a mapquest image of my location in illustrator and then adding all the wording and images in photoshop.
I created a toile belly band to hold everything together by cutting 2 inch wide strips of the same toile paper I used for the invitation mat. Once all the pieces were put together I wrapped the invite with the toile strip and used a glue dot to close it on the back.
I used a gocco printer to print my return address on my envelopes as well as my address on the rsvp envelopes.
I lined my envelope with toile paper by making a template out of an extra envelope. I cut it down to fit inside, traced the shape on the toile paper and then glued just the flap part down. Be sure not to cover the adhesive part of the envelope.
I really enjoyed making these and received many compliments!
