About Me (and this site)Hi. I'm Delilah and I am the owner/creator/editor of Do-it-yourself-invitations.com
![]() The idea to create this website came to me while I was planning my wedding. A DIY wedding. I planned my own wedding and managed to do it on $5000. Yes, a very small budget for today's standards. But I managed to pull it off with a little help and a little creative thinking. We planned our wedding with the focus on casual elegance and most of all FUN. Our focus was mostly on making sure that our friends and family would have just a great a day as we did. And let me tell you, THEY DID! Our wedding is still being talked about 3 years later as being so much fun and so wonderful and full of love. But that's a whole other story! I have always been really into crafty things and creating, so doing wedding crafts all came pretty naturally to me. Especially paper crafts, and my wedding invitations. I made a very simple wedding invitation compared to many of those I feature on this site. It was to match my simple and slightly casual wedding. A few of my friends and family inquired as to where I got my invites. When I told them I actually made them myself they said "You should go into business with this." The seed was planted... I had been working dead end job after dead end job trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I grow up. I went from working as a bartender, to a bill collector, to a doggy daycare attendant. I kid you not. Then I found out I was pregnant. I was working 12 hour shifts at the time and knew I had to make big changes if we were going to start a family. I started researching working from home, e-commerce, and thought about starting a website. I tried a few things and failed, lost money, got burned. And then I found SBI!
How This Momma Quit Her DayjobMind you I had no experience AT ALL with building websites. SBI is a web hosting company that provides you with the tools to not only build a website, but one that gets targeted traffic from search engines. They basically give you all the tools to start a home business based on your biggest passion or hobby. My wheels were turning. The more I read about SBI the more I felt that it really made sense for me, but I was terrified to get burned again. The membership was $300 and at the time $3.00 was a lot for me to part with. I took the leap! I started my membership, took an early maternity leave, and poured myself fully into building this website. I never ended up returning to work. My daughter was born December of 2006. Within the first year I made enough to stay at home with her. By the end of the second year we were able to move into our own home. Now I am surpassing my husband's income. While on the search for our new house I discovered I was pregnant again and decided to start up website #2. And so Make-your-own-baby-stuff.com was created. I gave birth to my son in November of 2008. I spend every day soaking up as much time with my two babies as I possibly can. I will never miss a single moment. A single smile, first steps, or first words. I am so eternally grateful for that.
How You Can Do It TooI won't sugar coat anything for you. Building a business form the ground up is not easy. There is a lot of work involved but if you base it all on something you really love or are passionate about, then it's all fun! With Site Build It on your side I really think you cannot go wrong. It changed my life in ways I never imagined possible! If I had any advice for anyone interested in starting a website of their own it would be to read the action guide from front to back. Really read it and understand it. If it doesn't get your wheels turning then I don't know what else will.
Have any questions after that? I love to share and help others get started on their own path to success. I can't help but babble on and on about this. I think everyone around me is probably pretty sick of listening to me so why not give them a break. LOL!
