Planning a birthday with an Elmo theme? These Elmo birthday invitations are perfect! They are easy to make, creative, and are a great project to get your kids involved with. They will love creating the background for the invitations. So get out a big box of crayons and let's start creating! Materials needed to make the Elmo birthday invitations: 8 1/2" by 11" white cardstock red felt googly eyes dark yellow cardstock black cardstock crayons craft glue Step One: Print out the invitation wording. To get the best bang for your buck you should print the invitation text two to a page. This way when you print them out all you have to do is cut them in half and fold each half to make the invitations. I have made this step easy for you by providing a printable invitation template. print the invitation text onto 8 1/2" by 11" cardstock. If you are using my printable invitation template then you should print the pages double sided. Step Two: Cut the cardstock in half. You can easily cut them in half by hand. Use a good guillotine or sliding hand cutter. Once the paper is cut in half simply fold the half sheets in half to create folded cards. Step Three: Let your kids at em' with a box of crayons. Or just do it yourself. For those of us who are familiar with Elmo you know that Elmo's world is decorated with crayon. This makes things very easy. and kids drawings match the theme perfectly. Even if you are doing it yourself you can easily get by by just doodling and scribbling to decorate the invitations. Step Four: Creating Elmo. Well of course you need Elmo to make these Elmo birthday invitations! Start with red felt. There are a couple of ways to make shapes with the felt. If you have a super sharp and durable circle punch then you can simply punch the shape for Elmo's head from the felt. Another good way is to just find something circular shaped and trace the shape onto the felt. Cut the shape out with some good sharp scissors. For the body I just cut the shape out free hand. You could also use an oval punch and cut it in half. The nose I used a tear drop punch to create. Again, cutting the shape out by hand is not very hard. Same goes for the mouth. Both the mouth and nose are cut from colored cardstock. You can get the cardstock at any arts and crafts store usually. They sell it by the sheet most of the time too. This will save you money if you are only making a handful of invitations. Just use some good craft glue to piece all of the shapes together to create Elmo. With the felt and googly eyes he really stands out, in turn, making these Elmo birthday invitations really stand out! Kids will love them. They will also love making them! Good luck and Happy Elmo Birthday Party!
